Some may be familiar with Phantasy Star Portable and Portable 2 which received English releases, however 2 Infinity never did. Personally I really like this game and it's quite a considerable expansion so I thought it was a shame no patch has been released so I decided to take a look.

Alright, I had mentioned earlier in another thread that because of me trying to help a non-Japanese-speaking friend of mine make the transition from PSP2 English to PSP2i Japanese, added with the decreased likelihood of SEGA of America bringing Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity to English-speaking territories, that I was going to create a Full Translation Guide covering the majority of Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity. I'm going to be using Microsoft Word to write this guide, including screenshots and Japanese text, while posting and upating this thread to track progress on the guide. The things I plan to include: Translations of the majority of all the buttons and menues.
Translations of basic terms. 'Photon Arts', 'Save Game', 'Network Play', etc. Translations of the names of all Photon Arts. Which choices to make during storymode. The main objectives for Storymode on a chapter-by-chapter basis, and Parameters for getting S-Rank. Plot Script, so you'll understand 100% of the story.
(That way, all you people whining about 'I wanna play the story in English' won't be able to complain.) A complete overview and guide (with screenshots) on how Infinity Missions work and how to successfully synthesize missions. (I got really adept at Synthing missions over the past couple of months) Translations of Monster Spawn Tables for Infinity Missions (only). Glossary Indexes with names of the following translated: Inventory Items & Consumable Items Names of Weapons (You'll have to look up stats on your own, or the Japanese Wiki) Names of Bosses (I don't plan on doing names of basic Monsters. You can figure those out on your own.) Basic names and terms of Modules and Lineshields / weaves. A 2-page sheet of Hiragana & Katakana Alphabets translated to English so you can read / decipher Japanese on a basic level.
URLs of places you can go to dig up more information. With that having been said.
Here's where you guys come in. List off things you'd like to potentially see included in this guide.
In case I miss anything you feel is important, and I'll see about getting them into the guide as I write it. I figure I'd do this since I guess I need a 'follow-up' to the guide I wrote for Japanese Vanilla PSP2 on GameFAQs. That, and I have some time-off from college due having relatively easy classes. And don't worry, I've done my best to make this guide printer-friendly and saved it into the form of a.PDF file. Mac users shouldn't have to worry about this, though. Quoted for those who're still concerned about the English Patch that ColdBird is working in and keep asking me about it. Originally Stated On April 23rd, 2012 - Allow me to clarify things once again: I started my Infinity Translation Guide around June 15th, 2011. Infinity had been out in Japan since February 24th, 2011 and by the time I started working on the guide, it was more than evident that there would be no official English release due to Sega's track record.
During that time, people-mainly those on GameFAQs.com were still clamoring for an English Patch in spite of the fact that I was working on my guide. Somewhere down the line around October, word of my guide had spread far enough to the point where Coldbird (Creator of the PRO CFW series of firmware, and fan of Phantasy Star) had found out about it and ultimately gave him inspiration for his next project. After joining up on PSO-World, Coldbird began to spearhead the project for a Translation Patch (existing separately from my guide). Myself and others volunteered to aid in translating text dumps and scripts that Coldbird had directly lifted from the game's coding.
Everything for the most part was going fine. Coldbird had (and presumably still has) big aspirations for the patch-one of the biggest being inserting Anti-Cheating Measures installed within the patch in an effort to keep Infinity from turning into USA / EUR Vanilla PSPo2. But he then hit a snag. He was designing the patch around the idea of it being used in conjunction with his PRO CFW. After I basically backed off from translating the script dumps so I could finally finish the guide (for you guys, mind you), after little over a month Coldbird eventually backed off from working on the patch in favor of other things having to take priority. Mainly working on his latest PRO CFW for PSP (and ultimately maximizing the effectiveness of the planned patch and all its new features).
Quite some time ago, to ease everyone's minds a bit, I went in Skype and spoke with Coldbird for a bit to confirm the fact that he was busy with other things at the moment. I also asked him if he'd make a brief appearance here on the forums to give everyone an update on the situation-which he did. The translation patch has been on hiatus since roughly the end of October / Beginning of November of 2011. I finished my translation GUIDE (Not the same as the patch.) somewhere around the end of March 2012, with the last update having been on April 1st 2012 on the basis that I don't like leaving my own projects unfinished, and I felt that Phantasy Star fans should have the game in English in at least SOME kind of form. To this day, people still confuse my guide and Coldbird's patch to be the same thing, when they're not. And has pretty much derailed from its original topic, and is continually bumped by people who haven't been reading the past few pages, or people fresh off of GameFAQs or some-such looking for the patch that was never released-thus causing people to think that the patch is still currently being worked on.
At best, the patch only exists in the form of a Beta dump plugin that only a select few myself included have actually tested with only a minimal amount of things translated (like the character creation menu, that's about it). Plus, it's somewhat buggy in that it causes the game to freeze up every now and again. Will ColdBird come back to finish the patch? There's a chance he will. He's a pretty nice guy. From a realistic standpoint though, given the nature of patches for RPGs, a decent patch for Infinity that includes the story text and everything is still a long ways off. Months to a year.
That's from my personal experience, though. WHat makes you think they won't translate it to the US? Sega is just slow with their shit. And unlike SE is not burning in hell for being stupid.
(A shame really, they need to be caressed by fire)Never said they flat-out wouldn't. I did say there's a decreased likelihood though. Sega's pretty focused on PSO2 and working with PS Vita at the moment. I don't think there's too much interest in them bringing Infinity to the West.
Or if they do bring it, it probably won't be all the way until the end of this year. There's a whole 'nother thread unrelated to this one debating whether or not they'll bring it to the West. I just started this thread to be independent of that one.
This thread is about a guide for the Japanese version that anyone can play right now. Not about a guide for a 'possible' release in the West. How difficult would it to be be to play this game if one only knows katakana?95% of the names of Items / Shieldweaves / Modules (with the exception of Mirage Blasts, which are almost exclusively in Kanji) / Weapons in this game are displayed in Katakana. The other 5% are Hiragana, Kanji, and English.
80% of the Menues, and Options are in Hiragana & Kanji. 20% in Katakana. 70% of the Storyline Dialogue is in Hiragana & Kanji, with 30% in Katakana for names of people, places, and things.

95% of the names of Missions are in Kanji and Hiragana. But mostly Kanji. 5% in Katakana. With that rundown, you'll be most proficient at knowing the names of Weapons / Items / People / Bosses / Monsters, if you just know Katakana.
PHANTASY STAR PORTABLE 2 INFINITY & PHANTASY STAR PORTABLE 2 a guide to play online ad-hoc multiplayer with PPSSPP emulator As you may already know, the official multiplayer servers for both Portable 2 and Infinity have closed down. The only way to with others over the internet is by: ♦ connecting to the Coldbird.net (aka Prometheus server) or ♦ connecting to other players through a VPN (virtual private network) This guide will focus on connecting using a VPN generously provided by MightyZack. His is dedicated to allowing PPSSPP users play Monster Hunter games online, but he has allowed us to piggyback on his VPN community to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 and Infinity online! After following the guide, you will be able to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 & Infinity on the PPSSPP emulator with other people around the world using the emulator’s Ad-Hoc mode (aka “lan” / “local wifi” ) and MightyZack's VPN. Please be sure to give MightyZack a big THANKS!
And if you feel extra generous, donations to him and his HunsterVerse community can be made here. (7) After the host has selected the Host Party option, have all other players select Join Party. NOTES FOR THE PLAYER(S) THAT JOIN THE GAME When you join the host’s game, you should see either the host’s character alongside any other party members that have joined OR a blue window with text. If you get the blue window, ask the host to confirm if he can see you in his party. If he cannot see your character on his screen, there was some sort of connection issue, and you will need to leave the party and try re-connecting (you may need to close the emulator and re-open it to do this). ☼ IMPORT PSP GAME SAVES FROM PSP HARDWARE INTO PPSSPP EMULATOR If you played the game on your real PSP, you can import your game save into the PPSSPP emulator.
Import your memory stick from your PSP (real hardware):. Create a memstick folder inside your PPSSPP emulator folder if one is not already there. copy the PSP folder from your PSP memory stick, and paste it inside the memstick folder of the emulator. (next time you bootup the game, the emulator will read your save) The folder structure should be. PPSSPP EMULATOR FOLDER memstick PSP.
☼ IMPORT YOUR PHANTASY STAR PORTABLE 2 GAME SAVE INTO INFINITY You can import your USA/EUR Phantasy Star Portable 2 game save into Infinity with the help of PPSSPP. The process is very fast and only involves renaming folders.
Before doing this, I strongly advise you back up your original game saves just in case you want to still play Phantasy Star Portable 2 in English. Convert USA/EUR PSP2 game save to JP PSP2 game save Navigate to your SAVEDATA folder: ppsspp-versionXXXX memstick PSP SAVEDATA Inside the SAVEDATA folder, locate your Phantasy Star Portable 2 game save folder.
The USA version is named ULUS10529 EUR version is named ULES01439 Rename your PSP2 game save folder to NPJH50043 (which is what the JP PSP2 game save is named). Import the JP PSP2 game save into infinity Run Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity and select the IMPORT option from the main menu. You can now select the CONTINUE from the main menu of Infinity to begin playing with your imported characters!! All your characters / levels / items are now playable in Infinity! ☼ DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PHANTASY STAR PORTABLE 2 & INFINITY.
Infinity's FPS in multiplayer mode is now raised to 30 FPS. Portable 2 multiplayer mode is capped to 20 FPS. More Bullet PAs are added in Infinity: every ranged weapon now has 2 different animations to choose from for firing a charged shot The below is an excerpt from DeviFoxx’s detailed & complete translation guide for Infinity (found ). EPISODE 2: This is an extension of the first story in the original Phantasy Star Portable 2. This Episode takes place 1 year later in which everyone the supporting cast from the first adventure is currently enjoying their lives since the defeat of the Sun God Cumern in the previous episode. However the appearance of an amnesiac Duman girl named Nagisa and her ancient partner, the perverted Wynarl, set new event in motion as they traverse the Gurhal system in effort to gather Dark Fallz fragments.
Duman race: a new 5th playable race of characters. Dumans are a race of genetically altered humans whose DNA has been corrupted after coming in contact with the SEED. Common physical characteristics include an eyepatch over one eye and extremely pale colored skin. They have high physical and technique attack power potential but the drawback is that they have paper thin defense. This essentially makes them glass cannons who have to rely on a evasion instead of defense for survival. Storage capacity increased: capacity has been increased from 1000 to 2000.
All Nanoblasts now grant invincibility: while the duration for most Nanoblasts for beasts have been shortened to 30 seconds, the advantage is that while in Nanoblast form, your Beast character will now be invincible!. Scape Doll collectin has been modified: Scape Dolls will automatically go to your common storage box if you are currently carrying one on your person. Rebirthing: While the level cap still remains at 200, at the Job Type Counter there is a new option called Rebirth, which allows you to allocate more points to individual stats (Max HP, Max PP, Power, Mind, Defense, Evasion, etc), ultimately making your character stronger. However, after doing so your level will be reset to Lv.1, and you have to level up to 200 all over again. Rebirthing can be done as much as you like, however there is an “upper limit” to how high you can boost your stats.
Stats like HP are higher: In the original game, stats were still fairly low in spite of being at higher levels like 150+ and beyond. This has been rectified now so that players characters will have much higher base stats in accordance with character levels.
PP Regen Higher: The regeneration rate of PP after using a PA Skill / Bullet / TECHNIC has been increased. Difficulty curve on missions lowered: Tough missions like The Magashi Plan can now be successfully completed without requireing specific Job and Weapon setups to make the mission easier. Total items increased to 3000. Costumes, Weapons, Armor, Furniture, Music Discs: Bursting with content. Type Level Capacity Increased: levels of job types has been increased from Lv30 to Lv50.
More Type Abilities: in accordance with the level boost, type abilities have been added. More TECHNICS: more technics have been added to the Force’s arsenal. A general favorite now is Sazonde, because it creates a very high chain and juggles the enemy in the air simultaneously. Type level up rate is faster from lv31-50: the grind past lv30 isn’t as grueling as it was to reach it. In fact, thanks to some of the new download missions like Maximum Attack Infinity 1-4, type leveling is now basically nothing at this point.
You can jump from Lv1 to Lv50 in about 3-4 days on average. No more having to spam The Magashi Plan anymore!. New Areas: a host of new areas, zones, and battlefields to adventure upon. Ranging from CLAD 6’s Beach Resort, to the Holy Ark of an Anctient Space Diety ☼ DLC DOWNLOAD & INSTALL BE ADVISED: Adding the weapons/clothes/parts/units/room decorations DLC to your game permanently causes longer load times when you first load your character. Deleting the items DLC from your memstick folder after importing them into your game will not remove the longer load times. Installing ONLY the Mission DLC will not increase load times. Included in the download are the following DLC:.
Phantasy Star Portable 2. Missions (works on USA, EUR and JP versions). Weapons (37), Clothes/Parts (55) (works ONLY on JP version). Phantasy Star Portable 2: INFINITY (It has nearly everything except the phone game crossover items, Rappy Accessory Parasol and the Pizza Hut Spear). Missions.
Weapons (105). Clothes/Parts (131). Units (2). Room Decorations (40). Infinity Mission Codes (41) HOW TO INSTALL: Unzip the DLC pack and place the folder called memstick in your PPSSPP emulator folder overwriting any files. This will install ALL the DLC listed above. Ppsspp-versionXXXX memstick All the DLC missions are in Japanese, even if you play them on an English version of the game.
However they offer unique drops and boosted EXP, so get to hunting! Also note that if you're going to play a DLC mission in multiplayer, ALL players must have the DLC mission installed. Your selected items can now be accessed from your shared storage / common box. Perform the same process for the Costumes / Units / Room Decorations to import them into your storage. You can repeatedly import the DLC items as often as you want to get multiple copies of the same items. INFINITY MISSION CODES must be redeemed in order to turn them into missions with high level enemies and great drop rates. Redeem the codes by doing the following.
Go to the drop ship. Located at the back is a large green computer.
Password items are special weapons, room decorations, modules and any other items which can be obtained by inputting a special eight digit code at the visiphone in your room. Each password can be entered only once per save data, so you will not be able to enter the same password with more than one of your characters. In the case of weapons received through this method, the weapon's element and attribute rate are both random (unless specified otherwise), and the rate can range from 0-50%. If you are unhappy with the outcome of a password weapon, you can reload your save data and try again. Of course, be certain to save your game before entering the password to avoid losing any previous progress. In single player mode, Phantasy Star Portable 2 runs in 30 FPS. However, in multiplayer mode, the game locks the frame rate to 20 FPS which can make the gameplay appear more choppy / laggy.
This is not a fault of the emulator. This is the way the game was designed and how it runs on real PSP hardware. However, there are now 60 FPS patches that can be used when playing the game from the PPSSPP emulator (see above!). DO I NEED EVOLVE OR ANY OTHER VPN SOFTWARE. VPN software allows you to connect with other people by using a virtual IP address without revealing your real IP address. Technically you don’t NEED to use VPN software, because you can connect to other party members using your real IP address, but for safety concerns, it’s best to stick with a VPN software, especially if you are going to play with several people you don’t know personally.
Alternatively, you can play using COLDBIRD.NET, but you need to setup your router/gateway to allow DMZ on your computer. Unfortunately, doing so leaves your computer vulnerable to potential cyber attacks, especially if you don’t have a firewall protecting your computer. However, this method doesn’t require any VPN software. To connect this way, you can view a tutorial.
THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT GAMING VPNs AVAILABLE. is more private than Tunngle. All players must be invited into the same party in order for all people in the party to play together. They can all work with the PPSSPP emulator, so if one doesn’t work for you, you can try one of the other VPNS. Keep note that all players you want to play with will need to use the same connection method to connect to each other. Players in your party can't mix VPN services.
EXAMPLE: If your friend has Hamachi VPN and you have Tunngle VPN. You both either need to use Hamachi VPN or Tunngle VPN to connect to each other.
